“Vaccine ‘Reduces Euphoric Effect of Cocaine’“

Xenova, a biotech firm in Britain, has announced its development of a vaccine aimed at preventing recovering cocaine addicts from total relapse if they use the drug once because of cravings.  The vaccine, known as TA-CD, has begun small-scale testing in the United States, where it was found to be safe and well-tolerated.  The vaccine is intended to reduce the euphoria experienced by cocaine users by preventing the drug from reaching the brain.  A company official has said the next round of tests will focus on the efficacy of the vaccine.
