Merck Boycott - Join us!
HLI and Children of God for Life scored a big
victory at the Merck Annual Stockholders' Meeting on
April 22nd in requiring Merck to listen to our
conscientious objection to their use of unethical
vaccines, and we thank Almighty God for His goodness to
us. Ideally we would have liked to have all the
stockholders support our resolution and force the
company to reevaluate its ethical violations, but that
did not happen. What did happen however was the opening
of many eyes and hearts as well as the affirmative vote
of many stockholders who have shown us that a conscience
still does exist in big business.
Let us pray for Merck's CEO, Board of
Directors and Management Committee in this year of the
Rosary, that they may "do the right thing" and cease
using vaccines cultured in cell lines derived from
aborted baby tissue.
We hope one day to be able to say that the
3rd largest drug producer in the world is
abortion-free and will henceforth offer only
ethically-produced drugs and vaccines to the world for
the betterment of humanity, just like their mission
statement says they should.
Boycott specifics
HLI is asking Merck stockholders and all
people of good will to take the following steps as a
response to the ongoing ethical violations of Merck and
Co., Inc.
- Merck Stockholders:
can express their disapproval of Merck's unethical
policies by divesting themselves of Merck stock
and buying stock in one of Merck's competitors or
other related industries which will likely drain
revenues from Merck. It is critical that they
inform Merck in writing of their decision to do
so.
[Note: we recognize that
many of Merck's competitors are also engaged
in immoral activities such as producing
abortifacients birth control pills, but we
are not endorsing these practices or
products in any way shape or form. We are
advocating measures which will put economic
pressure on Merck without any individual's
direct participation in the immoral
practices. The unfortunate part of modern
business is that the immorality is so deeply
rooted in business practices that it is
almost impossible to escape funding the
culture of death in some way. See the
Children of God for Life website for a wider
treatment of this subject.]
- Stockholders and all other people
of good will: can participate in a
corporate boycott of all Merck products, not just
the unethical vaccines. We advocate the purchase
of equivalent products from the competitors of
Merck (see the complete list of products and
competitors on the Children of God For Life
website
www.cogforlife.org), and we strongly
recommend that participants in this boycott
notify Mr. Raymond V. Gilmartin of their decision.
He can be contacted at the following address:
Raymond V. Gilmartin, CEO
Merck and Co., Inc.
770 Sumneytown Pike
P.O. Box 4
Westpoint, PA 19486
- Human Life International and
Children of God for Life: for our
part we are following up with a personalized
letter to each member of Merck's Board of
Directors appealing to their consciences to stop
the unethical practices and offering them
concrete, realistic measures for Merck to deal
with this situation and still make a profit
through ethical means. We will continue to promote
the boycott of Merck products, and since HLI is
international in scope we are able to make a wider
boycott appeal to other parts of the world through
our network.
We thank you in advance for your conscientious
response to this pressing issue.
Complaints and concerns about these ethical
violations can be addressed to Merck through their
ethics department:
