Minister denies concealing hepatitis C report

The Federal Health Minister has rejected suggestions she has concealed a report which reveals an explosion in hepatitis C infections in Australia.

Commissioned by the Government, the report says 500,000 Australians are likely to have hepatitis C by 2020.

The report was received by the Government in November last year.

Senator Kay Patterson says the Government needs time to digest the findings.

"We get reports commissioned all the time, and we operate on those reports," she said.

"They're to inform the Government in developing further policy, it's not some conspiracy, there are a lot of reports we get and we will respond to those reports in due course."
