“Crucell Enters Race to Find West Nile Vaccine”
Dow Jones Newswire (www.djnewswires.com) (06/11/03); Rodgers, Susannah
Crucell N.V. announced that it has begun research to develop a vaccine for the West Nile virus. Deviating from its usual practice of jointly developing the drug with another company, the Dutch biotechnology firm said it will not seek outside partnerships to develop a West Nile vaccine. Crucell's efforts are still in the early stages--preclinical trials on animals are presently underway, and human trials are expected to take place later this year. Another company that is developing a West Nile vaccine is Acambis, which has created a live vaccine, based on a modified version of its yellow fever vaccine.
