“CDC Says Major Cities Ready to Respond to SARS”

According to health officials, the safety and readiness procedures developed for bioterror attacks mean that most cities in the United States are well-prepared for an outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).  The deputy director for the Center for Disease Control, Ed Thompson, stressed prevention as a primary tactic in fighting SARS, which currently has no vaccine or cure.  There are approximately 60 probable cases of SARS in the United States at present.
