Officials Urged To Make Immunisation Drive Effective

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: June 06 (PNS) - NWFP Minister for Health Inayatullah Thursday directed health authorities to carry out immunization activities in such an organized manner that no child of below five years would remain uncovered and polio could be wiped out completely from the province, says a handout issued here.

This he said while visiting various areas of the districts of Nowshera, Mardan and Charsadda to monitor activities being initiated under 3-day polio eradication campaign in 22 high risk areas of the province. UNICEF representative Osama Makkavi and WHO Team Leader Mr. Abraham accompanied the Minister.

During his visit, the Health Minister conducted door to door inspection of immunization teams’ performance in Azakhel Payan, Nowshera, Rashakai, Raja Killi, Mardan, Akbarabad and Prang, Charsadda. The Minister expressed satisfaction at over all performance of the immunization teams performance. However, he directed concerned quarters to arrange polio vaccine for those children who were missed by one reason or other to achieve hundred percent coverage target.

The Minister disclosed that he would pay visit to various parts of the province on coming Monday to see weather missed children were covered or not. He warned that no negligence would be tolerated in this regard. The Health Minister also paid surprise visit to BHQ Hospital Charsadda and expressed anguish and dissatisfaction over deteriorated state of affairs in the hospital. Jamaati Islami leader Riaz Khan and MPA Saeed Khan were also present.

Expressing concern over poor sanitation, miserable condition of wash rooms, defective light and cooling system and none provision of available free drugs to the patients in the hospital, the Minister directed administration of the hospital to rectify the situation within one week. He warned of surprise visit to the hospital very soon.

Earlier the Health Minister also inspected BHU Akbarabad, Dargai, District Charsadda. He appreciated midwife Gul Pari and LHV Jannat Khatoon for their performance. The Minister ordered EDOH Charsadda to conduct inquiry against non-functional male medical technician, female medical technician and Ward Ardali of the BHU.
