“200,000 Kids to Get Anti-Flu Booster Jabs”

This summer, over 200,000 Scottish children will receive a one-time booster against Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib), following a small increase in the number of infections.  Hib can lead to pneumonia, meningitis, and septicemia.  Although over 96 percent of children receive a shot against Hib before four months of age, Scotland's chief medical officer, Dr. Mac Armstrong, noted that “over the last few years there has been a small but significant increase in the number of cases.  It is important that we take action to arrest this increase in new infections before it becomes a more serious concern.”
