Beijing -- The last 12 SARS patients in Beijing have been declared free of the disease but remain in hospital, state media reported yesterday.

"This appears to be the tail end of SARS in China," said Bob Dietz, the World Health Organization spokesman in Beijing, in response to the report.

The 12 patients have no more symptoms and are no longer infectious, Liang Wannian, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Health, was quoted as saying by the official Xinhua News Agency. AP
