Indian Team
Develops HIV-1 Prototype Vaccine: Minister
A prototype AIDS
vaccine, developed at the National Jai Vigyan Science & Technology Mission of
the Department of Biotechnology in India, is ready for preclinical toxicological
studies, according to Bachi Singh Rawat, the federal Junior Minister for Science
in India. Involved in its development is the Indian Council of Medical
Research, the Ministry of Health, and the International AIDS Vaccine
Initiative. The vaccine is a modified vaccinia ankara-based vaccine that aims
to protect against HIV-1 subtype C.
