Editor’s Note: On
June 12, 2001 a coalition of public interest
groups sued the American Dental Association (ADA)
and the California Dental Association (CDA)
claiming they have misled the public about the
dangers of mercury in tooth fillings. The
lawsuits, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, are
the latest salvo in a growing battle over mercury
fillings, which activists say can poison the body
with leaking vapors possibly linked to Alzheimer's
disease and other neurological problems,
especially in children and unborn babies. For more

Dear Editor:
I am 39 years old and have three healthy girls.
Before I had my three daughters, however, I
encountered many difficulties that I believe are
attributable to mercury poisoning. I was
vaccinated as a child which was probably my first
real exposure to mercury. I also had many amalgam
fillings as a child. When I was 27 years old, I
became pregnant for the first time. Shortly after
I conceived, I miscarried. The doctor told me that
the baby never started developing and that I could
try to get pregnant again immediately. I did
become pregnant the next month and had my first
daughter.
I started to have more medical problems that
led to my amalgam replacement when my daughter was
seven months old. After I had all my amalgams
replaced, I felt better than I had in years. I did
not pursue active detoxification because I seemed
to be feeling fine without it. I again became
pregnant and again miscarried, again, and again
and again. I had a total of four more
miscarriages. Each time that I became pregnant, I
would experience more symptoms of mercury
poisoning, as if my body was detoxifying while I
was pregnant. And each time, the miscarriage was
at the very early stages of pregnancy. Finally, I
became pregnant again and had an ultrasound to
confirm the pregnancy. I had a live baby! I saw
the baby and it had a heartbeat. A seemingly
normal, healthy baby. I was concerned because I
still experienced more symptoms of mercury
poisoning during this pregnancy, but I had proof
that my baby was live. The baby was approximately
6 weeks old. Unfortunately, at my next doctor's
appointment, the doctor could not find a
heartbeat. Another ultrasound confirmed that this
baby too, had died. I was crushed, but knew that
this baby's life had a purpose.
Because the baby was not naturally aborting, I
had to have a D & C. This time, I decided to have
the baby tested. They sent the fetus to the Mayo
Clinic and tested the "products of conception" for
mercury levels. All the mercury experts didn't
think that the mercury level would be significant
because at this point it was a good two years
after amalgam replacement.
But much to their surprise, the mercury level
came back four times higher than normal! The
so-called experts felt that the actual amount was
too minute to have caused the baby's death. The
bottom line was, however, that I had a dead baby
with mercury levels four times higher than normal!
I was determined to expose this deadly poison. I
went through a more active detoxification process
and went on to have two more healthy baby girls. I
still fight for a mercury-free environment, not
only for my three living daughters, but most
especially, for my unborn babies that lost their
fight with mercury.
