“Shot Shortage Ends”

Vaccine shortages around the United States have resulted in some children being behind in their immunization schedules, including over 3,000 children in Allen County, Ind. The Indiana Department of Education provided an “exceptional circumstance” clause in its requirements for vaccinations for the 2002-2003 school year because of the shortage of vaccines like the one against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. The department has revoked that clause for the coming school year, however, as the vaccines are now in more plentiful supply.
