HHS, Republic of
Korea Expand Cooperation on Infectious Diseases Research
HHS News Release
(07/22/03)
Health and Human
Services (HHS) Secretary Tommy G. Thompson and Korean Minister of Health and
Welfare Hwa-Joong Kim have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote more
cooperation between the two nations in research into vaccine-preventable and
infectious disease. As we jointly tackle enhanced infectious disease research,
well be doing more than just strengthening our own ties--well be creating a
healthier global community, said Thompson. The memorandum calls for more
collaboration in areas like public health law, laboratory science and research,
environmental and occupational health, tuberculosis, chronic diseases,
vaccine-preventable and other infectious diseases, gender and global health,
epidemic investigation and surveillance, and bioterrorism.
