Children In Fik Zone, Somali State Protected Against
Measles
Jijjiga, July 16, 2003 (WIC)-
The Somali State Health Bureau disclosed that it has inoculated more
than 117,000 children against the possible out break of drought
induced diseases in Fik zone of the state.
Coordinator of vaccination against six child killer diseases with
the Bureau, Mehadi Abdi told Walta that children between the ages of
six months and 15 years have been vaccinated against Measles in Fik,
Dihan Gerbo, Segeg, Hamero and Meyumulke woredas of the zone.
He said the provision of vitamin "A" capsules has also been
administered alongside the immunization campaign conducted jointly
with the Ministry of Health, World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF
and Save the Children-UK.
According to the Coordinator, the immunization campaign could
control the outbreak of Measles in epidemic proportions for over the
next three years in the zone.
