AMA TRIES TO BLOCK SKILLS TEST FOR DOCTORS

The American Medical Association is threatening to pull the plug on a new requirement that doctors prove they can communicate effectively with patients before they are licensed in the United States.

 

The national doctor's organization -- which has a well-funded lobbying arm -- vowed to oppose a new clinical skills test for U.S. medical graduates ``by any means, including possible legal action'' at its 2003 annual meeting.
