U.S. IMMUNIZATION NEWS
“Rosalynn Carter Discusses Every Child by Two”
Today Show (07/10/03)
In an interview with news anchor Katie Couric on NBC’s “Today Show,” former first lady Rosalynn Carter discussed Every Child By Two, the immunization awareness organization that she helped found. The group is seeking to ensure that each infant receives all of the vaccinations required by the age of two years, rather than simply before they enter school. “It’s critically important,” said Carter. “Children can be infected ... by diseases before age two.” Some parents believe they can wait for immunizations, while others think they cannot afford the vaccines, but many programs exist to provide free or low-cost immunizations to needy children. For those parents who are worried about side effects, Carter points to a number of large-scale studies that have shown there does not appear to be any link between vaccines and autism, a concern expressed by some opposition groups.
