“World Cocktail to Fight Flu Epidemic”

Daily Telegraph (AU) (www.dailytelegraph.news.com.au) (07/09/03) P. 3; Taylor, Zoe

While there have been few reports of influenza in Australia so far this year, medical experts are warning that an epidemic could be just around the corner, and they are urging people to obtain the vaccine created this year designed to stave off the most common strains of the illness, including the Moscow, Hong Kong, and New Caledonia strains.  Dr. Paul Armstrong, acting director of communicable diseases for New South Wales Health, said that “the vaccine is very effective and it does not take that long for the body to respond to it.  It is particularly important for people over 65, those over 50 of Aboriginal descent and others with respiratory or chronic diseases to get the vaccine.”
