TORONTO (CP) - Now that both the U.S. Centers for
Disease Control and the World Health Organization have
dropped all warnings against travel to Toronto, can
Canada's largest city bill itself as SARS-free?
Experts suggest the answer is probably, but not
definitely. And given the city's earlier setback on the
road to SARS containment, they think making such a
proclamation would be foolhardy. "I'd like to be able to
say that, but I think it's still time to be cautious,"
said Dr. Andrew Simor, chief microbiologist at
Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre.
"I think that we are likely SARS-free, but we still
have patients in hospital who are being treated. And I
think it's proper and prudent to be cautious at this
point rather than just say that it's all over."
