"Whooping Cough Contained; Only 1 New
Case Reported"
Providence Journal-Bulletin (www.projo.com)
(01/29/03) P. C2
Officials in Dighton, Mass.,
report that an outbreak of pertussis, or whooping cough, appears to have been
contained, with only one new case reported this week. Last week, seven cases of
pertussis were reported at
Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School. A spokeswoman for the Massachusetts
Department of Health notes that although all students in the state are required
to be vaccinated against pertussis prior to entering school, immunity may wane
as students grow older.
