"Polio Cases Rise, City Government Blames UP"
Economic Times of India (www.economictimes.com) (01/06/03)
Health officials in Delhi, India, launched on Saturday the third phase of the pulse polio immunization campaign. A total of 25 polio cases was recorded in the city last year, compared to just one in 2001. Chief minister Sheila Dikshit explained the increase by pointing out that "Delhi was a large migrant population from Uttar Pradesh, which is known to be the reservoir of the polio virus." The minister noted that over 7,000 immunization centers have been set up to vaccinate the city's children against polio.
