KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
The Honorable Johnny Isakson, United States House of Representative
Congressman Isakson is a member of the Autism Caucus and a member of the
House Committee on Education and the Workforce. Mr. Isakson was elected to
the Georgia House of Representatives in 1976, and served seven terms, four as
Minority Leader. He was the Republican nominee for Governor in 1990, and was
elected to the Georgia Senate, serving two terms before being appointed
Chairman of the Georgia Board of Education in 1996. Reelected in November of
2000, he serves on the Transportation Committee and the Education and
Workforce Committee. He is Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on 21st Century
Competitiveness
Nikola R. Djurie, Attorney at Law: Mr. Djurie graduated cum laude from
Harvard Law School. He is currently with the law firm Sutherland, Asbill &
Brennan located in Georgia. Mr. Djurie practices areas are Tax, Tax
Litigation and Controversy, Tax, Business and Estate Planning.
Joseph A. White, Attorney at Law: Mr. White graduated from Tulane Law School
and is currently with the law firm Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan. His area of
practice is discrimination cases brought under federal and state law. Mr.
White has a brother with Autism and knows first hand what his parents have
gone through to get the help that his brother needs.
Gary S. Mayerson, Attorney at Law: Gary Mayerson graduated in 1979 from the
Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. In early 2000, Gary left
his longstanding position as a Partner of a well known Manhattan law firm in
order to launch his own practice dedicated to representing children and
adolescents diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorders and other related
disabilities. Today, Gary and his staff assist families across the nation who
are attempting to secure for their children appropriate placements and
services including 1:1 Applied Behavior Analysis, Supported Inclusion, Speech
and Language Therapy/Augmentive Communication, Occupational Therapy/Physical
Therapy, Assistive Technology and preparation for gainful employment. Gary is
a member of the New York, New Jersey and Florida Bars, and has been specially
admitted to practice in many jurisdictions, both at the State and Federal
levels. Gary recently had a chapter published in Dr. Ivar Lovaas's Book
"Teaching Individuals with Developmental Delays".
