"A Different War"

Washington Post -- Style; News (www.washingtonpost.com) (01/29/03) P. C15

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has requested $534 million to help fight poverty and disease throughout the world.  The plan would help children in 33 nations, with Afghanistan, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo receiving the largest amount of funding.  UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy also noted that the organization is intensifying its effort to help Iraqi citizens have better access to measles vaccines and clean water, although the funds that have been set aside do not include the extra support that would be needed if there is a U.S.-led war in Iraq.
