INTERNATIONAL IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Call for Action Over Child Health Jabs"
Press Association (UK) (www.pressassociation.press.net) (01/09/03); William, Helen
The London Assembly Health Committee says Britain needs to overhaul its immunization policies to deter a critical shortfall in vaccination uptake. Statistics show that just 73 percent of London children have received the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine by age two, compared to a national average of 85 percent. Additionally, only 88 percent of London children have been immunized against polio, compared to a 94 percent average national rate. The Assembly suggested that vaccine uptake could be boosted if the government were to launch a pediatric call and recall system to ensure that children are appropriately vaccinated.
