"Bangladesh Center Looks for Vaccine Against Diarrhea"

In Bangladesh, Firsausi Qadri of the International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research reports that they are testing four vaccines against diarrheal diseases, which take the lives of some 20,000 people in the country each year.  The vaccines are currently being tested on 90 children; however, researchers plan to increase that number to 345 children.  "We eventually aim to bring them under one vaccine, which would be administered to the children orally," Qadri explained.  Qadri noted that vaccines are important to disease prevention in Bangladesh, but she also called for improvements in sanitation and hygienic conditions to prevent diarrhea as well.
