"20 Priority Areas Noted for Health Care"
Associated Press (www.ap.org) (01/07/03)
In a new report prepared for the Department of Health and Human Services, the Institute of Medicine recommends that the U.S. government and private health organizations focus on 20 priority areas for health care. The report lists immunization as a priority area, as well as high-blood pressure, asthma, ischemic heart disease, and medication management. The committee that prepared the report noted that preventable diseases take the lives of hundreds of children and thousands of adults every year, with flu and pneumonia among the major killers.
