Some 450,000 African children die from
measles each year, and the Tampa Bay, Fla., chapter of the American Red Cross
has raised more than $2,300 to help fight the disease. The funds, raised by
about 40 young people as part of the Measles Initiative, will be used to
vaccinate children in Ghana against measles. The Measles Initiative was
launched one year ago, and since that time, some 68 million children throughout
Africa have been vaccinated against the disease.
