"Whooping Cough Outbreak in Sweetwater County"
Associated Press (www.ap.org) (02/13/03)
Health officials in Wyoming report that an outbreak of whooping cough, or pertussis, in Sweetwater County since the beginning of the year has involved 15 confirmed cases, with another 10 cases being investigated. According to Karla Reich of the Wyoming Department of Health, this is the highest number of whooping cough cases reported in Wyoming in a given year in over 25 years. State epidemiologist Dr. Karl Musgrave noted that cases of the disease are on the increase throughout the United States, although the reason for this is not yet clear.
