"UNICEF Immunizes 3 Million Children Against Measles in Rwanda" Xinhua News Agency (202.84.17.11/en/main.htm) (02/19/03)
A massive new immunization campaign in Rwanda aims to vaccinate 3 million children against measles. The effort--being supported by the Rwandan government, UNICEF, the World Health Organization, the Red Cross, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention--began on February 10 and will last about two weeks. The vaccination campaign is targeting all children under the age of 15, with children under five years of age also receiving supplementary doses of vitamin A. To assist the effort, UNICEF has provided the measles vaccine being used, as well as the injection materials and cold storage equipment for the vaccine doses.
