"Quarantine Imposed in Kindergartens in Ural City Because of Flu" ITAR-TASS (www.itar-tass.com) (02/07/03); Manina, Yulia
With 870 flu cases in the Russian city of Kamensk-Uralsk, which is about 10 times higher than normal, a quarantine for kindergartens is attempting to protect children in the city from exposure to the epidemic. More than 50 percent of those affected are children, but a major outbreak among children was prevented because 13,000 out of the 20,000 schoolchildren received a flu vaccination. Last year, a similar quarantine was imposed due to a flu epidemic, but the number of cases is higher this year, according to local epidemiological department head Tatyana Saikina.
