"Nigeria Initiates Program to Tackle Malaria, Typhoid"

Nigerian Health Minister Alphonsus Nwosu said Friday that the country will soon launch a new effort to fight both malaria and typhoid.  Under the program, Nigerian school children will receive vaccinations against typhoid without charge, children and pregnant women in the country will receive treatment for malaria and typhoid, and the government will begin promoting the use of insecticide-treated bed nets, Nwosu said.  The program is expected to begin in mid-March.
