In Hong Kong, respiratory infections caused by the adenovirus virus increased from 25 cases in August to 84 cases in December, and infections caused by the influenza B virus are up from just three cases in August to 67 in December. The adenovirus and the influenza B virus are likely to peak this spring, according to University of Hong Kong associate professor of microbiology Patrick Woo Chiu-yat. He recommended that people at high risk for infection, such as the elderly, should seek an influenza vaccination.
