U.S. IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Davis Beset by Whooping Cough"
Sacramento Bee (www.sacbee.com) (02/19/03) P. B1; Martineau, Pamela
Public health officials in California report that an outbreak of whooping cough in Yolo County that began six months ago continues to spread. According to county epidemiologists, so far there have been 172 probable cases of the disease, with all but 12 occurring in Davis. School officials, doctors, and parents are diligently working to identify people exposed to the disease, in order to begin them on prophylactic antibiotics. Although immunizations against the disease are required for California children entering day care or school, immunity decreases over time.
