"Critics Contest VaxGen Claim That AIDS Vaccine Has Hope"
Wall Street Journal (www.wsj.com) (02/25/03) P. D4; Hamilton, David P.
Overall, a recent clinical test of VaxGen's AIDSvax vaccine was considered a failure. The company did note that the product seemed to protect African-Americans and Asians from HIV. However, many independent scientists dispute the notion, saying that the variance could be explained by statistical bias or other mistakes. The two minority groups also may have a greater chance of encountering HIV variants similar to those used to create AIDSvax, resulting in better statistics but in reality, a similar response rate.
