"Children to Be Offered Hib Booster Jab"

Press Association (UK) (www.pressassociation.press.net)

(02/18/03)

British health officials are offering booster jabs of the Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine to all infants and toddlers as part of a catch-up campaign to stem a slight increase in Hib infections reported since 1998.  Routine vaccinations against Hib have made the infection all but disappear among young children, but last year, there were 122 reported cases of Hib disease in the United Kingdom, which prompted officials to act. The four-month long booster program has not been scheduled yet but will target all children who are between the ages of six months and four years old as of April 1.
