U.S. IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"New Vaccines, Fewer Shots"
Parenting (www.parenting.com) (04/03) P. 42; McCarthy, Laura Flynn
As many as 20 injections may be administered to babies before their second birthdays. Children, parents, and doctors would have an easier time if the number of injections could be cut down. The recently approved Pediarix vaccine's ability to protect against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, and polio slashes nine inoculations down to three shots. A product that would protect against measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella at the same time is currently in development. Other vaccines in clinical trials protect against influenza, respiratory syncytial virus, and rotavirus.
