U.S. IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Bibb Piloting Toddler Health Program"
Macon Telegraph (www.macontelegraph.com) (04/27/03) P. B1; Fain, Travis
Georgia's Bibb County is the first county in the state to implement a voluntary registration for two-year-olds and three-year-olds that will ensure they receive immunizations and regular health screenings; the program is attempting to reach children prior to their first year in school to ensure their vaccinations are current. Registration began in February and 110 children are currently involved. In hopes of using the program as a pilot for a nationwide program, Rosalyn Carter, wife of former president Jimmy Carter, is in Macon, Ga., to promote the program. Carter wants registration, which is currently voluntary, to be mandatory, but that would necessitate a legislative act similar to the one requiring child safety seats in vehicles.
