Isabella County — (04/23/03)--Doctors say a Central Michigan University student is recovering from bacterial meningitis. At the same time, other students at the school are getting vaccines to prevent it. ABC12's Courtney Chamberlin had more.
So far, less than 10 students have decided to receive it. CMU is offering it simply for precautionary measures. A CMU student got sick at home over the weekend and everyone who may have had contact with her has been notified.
CMU says while the bacterial infection is not easily spread, students should always be on the lookout for possible symptoms, including headache, sudden severe headache, sore throat, fever, muscle aching. There can be mental confusion, even going so far as coma and there could be a flat red rash that occurs.
While the special vaccine clinic was only open Wednesday, students can get vaccines on campus at any time.
