"Canada Seeks Help From CDC in Fighting Virus"
Washington Post (www.washingtonpost.com) (04/23/03) P. A26; Brown, DeNeen L.
Ontario health commissioner Colin D'Cunha says that provincial and federal health officials have asked the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for help in combating severe acute respiratory syndrome
(SARS) after health care workers were exposed to the virus despite taking precautions. According to D'Cunha, the CDC sent a hospital-control expert, an industrial hygienist, and an infection-control expert to help, and he adds that the assistance is necessary because Canadian researchers and health care workers are exhausted. Meanwhile, Ontario health minister Tony Clement announced on Tuesday $1.7 million in new funding to help research for a new test and possible vaccine against SARS.
