"The MMR Vaccine Is Best Option, Says Study"

London Evening Standard (www.thisislondon.co.uk) (04/17/03) P. 17; Wheldon, Julie

An independent British review group reported Thursday that no definitive evidence exists to suggest that the vaccine against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) is a cause of autism or bowel inflammation, a concern of many parents who are leery of having their children vaccinated against the diseases.  The Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin, which makes its reports for doctors and pharmacists, said that the MMR vaccine is still the best way to protect children against those illnesses, despite circumstantial evidence that has linked the vaccine to autism and bowel inflammation in children. The report acknowledged small studies that suggested a connection, but it noted there are many more large, controlled, completely scientific studies that indicate the contrary, that there is no link.
