As health officials struggle to contain the spread of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), New Zealand physicians are asking the public to get their flu vaccinations this winter to eliminate any confusion between flu symptoms and SARS. The call is being made in a bid to prevent emergency rooms and health professionals from being overloaded with patients who might misdiagnose their flu symptoms as SARS. Flu shots are being offered to the public at no charge until the end of June, after which time shots will cost NZ$22.
