INTERNATIONAL IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Polio Drive Runs Out of Steam in UP"
Times of India (www.timesofindia.com) (04/13/03)
The pulse polio programme, which began in 1995, has allowed vaccinators to conduct 26 rounds of immunizations, but critics are pointing to indications of exhaustion among vaccinators and the re-occurrence of polio in Uttar Pradesh, India. Leading up to 1999, attendance at booths generally stayed between 60 percent and 80 percent, but that rate has dropped to 44 percent this year. Experts believe people are frustrated by the program and that some may view it as an official agenda.
