"No Smallpox Vaccine for Troops With Heart Risk" Los Angeles Times (www.latimes.com) (04/05/03) P. 14
Following three deaths from heart attacks possibly linked to the smallpox vaccine, the U.S. military has decided that personnel with three or more risk factors for heart disease--such as tobacco use, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or high blood sugar--will not receive the smallpox vaccine. So far, approximately 350,000 U.S. military personnel have been vaccinated against smallpox.
