Added 9/1/01

VAERS ID 155888    Someone of unknown age received the FLU vaccine administered by the military on 11/29/00.  She was receiving weekly methotrexate to treat rheumatoid arthritis at the time of vaccination.  Four days later she becaue ill.  Four days after that she was seen by her physician and hospitalized in the ICU.  It then says:  "She requir" and that's it.  I don't know when she died.  Besides arthritis, she had "parkinsonism".  (Florida)

VAERS ID 160876    A 98 year-old woman received the PPV vaccine on 12/1/99.  Here is what it says: "In April 2000, the patient developed a cold.  Additionally, it was noted that she kept a fever, had difficulty swallowing, difficulty drinking fluids, runny nose, continuous vomiting and coughing of mucus.  It was reported that three months post v" and that's it.  I don't know when she died.  The only pre-existing condition noted was "nonspecific allergy".  (New Jersey)

VAERS ID 161719 - I'm not sure that this death occurred in 1999, but it's my best guess since it says the onset date was 3/26/99 and that the infant "was reported to be sick with a virus and diarrhea for a couple of weeks. The pt was taken to the ER by EMS after mother found the child unresponsive. The baby was pronounced dead on arrival at the Hospital. The cause of death was" and there it ends.  Don't know what vaccines were received, either. (Ohio)

Added 7/19/01

VAERS ID 162371    A 68 year-old woman received the FLU vaccine on 11/29/99.  4 days later, on 12/3/99, she became ill.  After another 4 days, on 12/7/99, she was seen by her physician and hospitalized in the ICU due to fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea, and possible low-grade fever.  She required mechanical ventilation on 12/12/99.  The last thing the test says is “Open-lung biopsy” and that’s it.  She had as pre-existing conditions, blepharitis, rheumatoid arthritis, depression, esophageal reflux, and Parkinson's disease.  Don’t know when she died.  (Florida)

VAERS ID 162101    An 83 year-old man received the FLU vaccine on 10/14/99.  15 days later he developed a severe cough, coughing up blood by the next day, which was the 30^th.  He was hospitalized that day and received a transfusion on the 31^st.  Tests were conducted and he was refereed on 11/14/99.  He died 12/23/99.  (Iowa)

VAERS ID 119003    An infant received the HepB and HIBV vaccines on 1/6/99.  There is no text concerning the death, but it says the adverse event onset date was 9 days after the vaccinations on 1/15/99.  It also says he had pneumonia at birth (he was born in  July of 1998 and was hospitalized (1 time?), and was a twin.  (Maryland)

VAERS ID 118536    An infant received the HepB vaccine on 1/20/99.  2 days later he died of SIDS.  He had received his first dose on 12/18/98.  (Pennsylvania)

VAERS ID 121278/121082/121007    An infant received the DTaP, HIBV, IPV and HepB vaccines on 3/30/99.  2 days later he was dead of SIDS.  (He was given his last feeding at 4AM.  He was smiling and doing well.  Found in his crib at 7AM, unresponsive.  CPR was started and he was taken to the hospital.  They were unsuccessful in resuscitating him.  Mom said he was cranky the day after the vaccine when someone touched where the vaccine was given.)  (Michigan)  

VAERS ID 121163    A 63 year-old man received the LYME vaccine on 4/2/99.  The next day he dropped dead in his yard.  It was not specified if emergency treatment was administered.  Cause of death was reported as sudden death.  It was not specified if an autopsy was performed nor was the certified cause of death provided.  (Pennsylvania)

VAERS ID 120891    An infant received the DTaP, HIBV, IPV and HepB vaccines on 3/17/99.  There is no more information, other than that he visited the ER and that there is a family history for SIDS and possible sickle cell anemia.  (Texas)

VAERS ID 125185/123703    An infant received the HepB vaccine on 5/28/99. It says in the first reported text that he received the vaccine and arrived at the hospital dead on arrival.  And that a medical exam report was pending.  However, the adverse onset date was said to be 6/7/99.  The report was later amended to say that an autopsy was performed and that results are pending.  Cause of death was not specified.  It says the MD did not feel the vaccine was related to the death. He died 10 days post vaccine or immediately post vaccine, don't know which.   (North Carolina)

VAERS ID 125168    A one year-old received the VARCEL vaccine on 5/21/99.  Says patient well when vaccinated.  Then that she presented with "rom" (range of motion?) on 5/26/99 and vomiting.  She was then transferred to a hospital where she died of pneumococcal meningitis.  It doesn't say how long she was in the hospital nor when she died.  (Connecticut)

VAERS ID 125076    A 55 year-old man received the LYME vaccine on 6/10/99.  He was reported to be in excellent health - no hypertension, high cholesterol or cardiovascular disease.  He was found dead 3 days later of cardiovascular disease and hypertension.  (New York)

VAERS ID 124943    An infant received the HepB vaccine on 6/1/99.  He died the next day at home - autopsy said SIDS.  (Arizona)

VAERS ID 124936    A one year-old received the MMR and OPV vaccines on 5/24/99.  8 days later she was found to have a fever and after waking from her nap had a seizure.  She was rushed to the ER where she was unable to be resuscitated.  Cause of death at time of reporting was unknown.  (Georgia)

VAERS ID 123703    An infant received the HepB vaccine on 5/28/99.  The text says he received the vaccine and arrived at the hospital dead on arrival.  A medical exam report is pending.  However, the adverse event onset date was said to occur on 6/7/99, 10 days post vaccination.  So I'm not sure when it occurred.  (North Carolina)

VAERS ID 121783/118536    An infant received the HepB vaccine on 1/20/99.  He had experience body tremors since his first vaccination at approximately 1-2 weeks of age on 12/18/98..  They seemed to happen frequently.  He had diarrhea on the 18th of January and then received his second vaccination on the 20th.  On the 24th the diarrhea was worse but he was still nursing and urinating.  He died on the 25th of SIDS.  (In the first version it said he either had a second vaccine on the 22nd of January or died on the 22nd - confusing.)  (Pennsylvania)

VAERS ID 121425    An 1 year old received the MMR, OPV and VARCEL vaccines on 3/11/99.  It says he died and that the adverse event onset death was 22 days post vaccination.  However, it doesn't say anything else, so I don't know if that was the date of death or the beginning of the symptoms leading to the death.  (Georgia)

VAERS ID 128283    A 10 year-old received the HepB vaccine on 8/24/99.  13 days later he was found in bed unresponsive by mom.  Paramedics performed unsuccessful resuscitation, taken to ER, pronounced dead.  (Illinois)

VAERS ID 128065    A 15 year-old received the HepB vaccine on 6/10/99.  On 7/22/99 she was seen by “FMD” (?), complaining of left ear pain.  Diagnosed with otitis externa.  On 7/26/99 complained of left ear pain, headache, feeling off balance.  Diagnosis was otitis media.  Given Bactrim DS.  On the 28^th she had severe headache and neck pain, difficulty walking and a change in mental status, plus had “Kernig’s sign”.  She was hospitalized, given Claforan IV, Vanco, Acyclovir.  Says she “expired 8/”, so I don’t know when in August she died.  (Pennsylvania)

VAERS ID 127780     A 9 year-old received the HepB vaccine on 7/19/99.  Four days later he experience a high fever, vomiting and swollen glands.  Was hospitalized.  These events were considered life-threatening.  22 days post vaccination he died.  An autopsy was performed, but was inconclusive.  Cause of death unknown.  (Maryland)

VAERS ID 127519/127161    An infant received the HepB, IPV and RV vaccines on 7/12/99.  2 days post vaccination, at 5:30 PM he developed an unusual cry and pallor, and was taken to the ER.  Mom suspected bowel  obstruction.  X-Ray showed “ileus”.  At 7:30 PM he had cardiac arrest.  Resuscitated, remained unconscious.  Sent to UCSF where he remained unstable.  There was no possibility of surgery so he died on the 15^th, 3 days post vaccination.    The record was later amended to say that on the 14^th, 2 days post vaccination, his x-ray showed distention of the stomach, large and small bowels, with possible bowel obstruction.  Also that after being resuscitated he had another cardiac arrest the next day, when he died.  The autopsy report said it was cecal perforation.  (California)

VAERS ID 127170    An infant received the HepB vaccine on 5/27/99.  He died 30 days later at one month old.  (Kentucky)

VAERS ID 127167   An infant received the HepB vaccine on 3/17/99.  Says the adverse event onset date was 4/9/99, 23 days later but says nothing about how or when she died.  (Kentucky)

VAERS ID 127057  An infant received the RV vaccine on 3/11/99.  9 days later he was found unresponsive and not breathing.  CPR was initiated.  The patient was taken to the hospital.  CPR was continued and it was determined that some organ function had returned.  His EEG had a nearly flat wave pattern, however, so he was placed on a ventilator.  The next day, 10 days post vaccination, life support was withdrawn.  Cause of death SIDS.  (California)

VAERS ID 129991    A 55 year-old woman received the FLU vaccine on 10/19/99.  The next day she was found dead.  It is unknown if an autopsy is being performed.  (Florida)

VAERS ID 129827    A 33 year-old man received the FLU vaccine on 10/20/99.  That day he was found dead by a family member;  the exact time of his death has not been established.  An autopsy to determine cause of death is being conducted 10/21/99.

VAERS ID 129671    A 15 year-old received the HepB vaccine on 7/10/99.  I believe it was on 7/22/99 that she developed a headache, stiff neck and change in mental status.  She was also unable to walk.  She was then hospitalized and developed seizures.  She died on 8/1/99 (22 days post vaccination).  The initial evaluation and cause of death is aseptic meningitis.  There were three other cases of viral meningitis in the community during the same time frame.  (Pennsylvania)

VAERS ID 128372/127161    An infant received the HepB and RV vaccines on 7/12/99.  Two days later at 5:30PM he had an unusual cry;  had pallor and taken to the ER.  Mom suspected bowel obstruction - x-ray showed "ileus" (ileitis?).  At 7:30 PM he had cardiac arrest.  Apparently resuscitated remained unconscious.  Sent to UCSF where he remained unstable.  There was not possibility of surgery - as a result he died on the 15th (3 days post vaccination).  The report was later amended to say he had a possible obstruction; x-ray showed a gaseous distention of the stomach, and small and large bowels.  Says transferred after resuscitation to "KUB", and again said "ileus"  (isn't that a part of the intestine and not a diagnosis?).  He had a second cardiac arrest and this time expired.  His autopsy showed dehiscence of cecum, cecal necrosis (comma?) mesenteric thrombosis, intra-abdominal flu (fluids?).  (California)

VAERS ID 132241    An infant received the DTP, HBHepB and IPV vaccines on 11/2/99.  Eighteen days later he died of SIDS. (Tennessee)

VAERS ID 132111    An infant received the DTP, HIBV, IPV and HepB vaccines on 11/26/99.  Don't know when he died by he developed a fever, initially low grade ( think by the following day), then 104 by the morning of the 3rd day.  He was given acetaminophen every four hours, beginning at the time of vaccination.  (Texas)

VAERS ID 132108    An infant received the DTaP, HBHepB and IPV vaccines on 10/19/99.  5 days later she died of apparent SIDS.  Parents stated she had no reaction from the vaccination.  (Pennsylvania)

VAERS ID 131642    A three year-old received the FLU vaccine on 10/26/99.  Got brainstem and cerebellar edema leading to brain death.  Admitted (to the hospital I presume, but there is no indication of that, including checking the box re: hospitalized) on 11/12/99, 16 days later - don't know for sure when symptoms started - perhaps on the 12th?  Anyway, had normal lumbar puncture, MRI.  Follow up MRI on the 14th showed brainstem, cerebellar edema.  Had a prior history of CNS problems after last years vaccination (also FLU?);  I think they are saying that that time she had acute demyelinating encephalomyelitis (10/98) with bilatoral temporal lobes.  Don't know when she died.  (Minnesota)

VAERS ID 131636    An infant received the DTaP, HIBV and IPV vaccines on 11/2/99.    She died the next morning in bed but autopsy revealed a large abscess at bladder and surgical incision site from urological surgery done 10/6/99.  (New York)

VAERS ID 131452    A seven year-old received the FLU and PPV vaccines on 11/4/99.  3 days later she died - cause of death accidental asphyxiation "d/t" (?) lissencephaly, microcephaly.  (Louisiana)

VAERS ID 131449    A 56 year-old man received the FLU vaccine.  He was found dead 12 1/2 days post vax.  (Massachusetts)

VAERS ID 131045   An 85 year-old woman received the FLU vaccine on 10/5/99.  Post vaccination she complained of a temperature (103.8) and chills (not sure of the date, although onset date says 10/12/99).  She refused to be admitted to the hospital.  Then says her temperature was 104.6, and the "R" which means respiration, but doesn't indicate what it was.  She was admitted to the hospital (10/12?, 10/14?).  Says on 10/14/99 chest X-ray showed "ARDS", what ever that is, and pneumonia.  She was placed on a ventilator "DIC", whatever that is, and died on the 25th, 20 days post vaccination.  (Florida)

VAERS ID 130869    A 43 year-old woman received the FLU vaccine on 10/11/99.    Adverse event onset date said to be 10/20/99, 9 days later, which is probably when she was diagnosed with pneumonia.  She died on 11/1/99, 21 days post vaccination.  Her MD does not feel that what occurred is related to the vaccine.  (California)

VAERS ID 130648/129826    A 77 year-old woman received the FLU and PPV vaccines on 10/6/99.  Found dead by husband one day after the vaccine.  Her husband reported that on the 6th she had a cough and chest congestion;  never in her whole life saw an MD; always treated herself w/herbs and vitamins.  In amended text it says she has had a cough and congestion recently, but that she stated she was not ill the day of the vaccine.  (Why did she get the vaccine at this time, if she never saw MDs?)  (Wisconsin)

VAERS ID 130530/129134    A one year-old received the MMR and VARCEL vaccines on 9/1/99.  He was well until 11:30 PM on the 28th, 27 days post vaccination.  Then he got an upper respiratory infection, cough, and given a nebulizer.  He awoke well at 2:30AM, but was found dead at 5:30AM.  The autopsy indicated lymphadenopathy; slides are pending.  Diagnosed viremia pending report.  Later amended to say - post vaccination he experience coughing, wheezing, a respiratory infection;  symptoms reported as life-threatening.  Mom gave nebulizer treatment; 2-3 hours later found dead, 28 days post vaccination.  Cause of death unknown.  MD did not feel death was related to the vaccine.  (Virginia)

VAERS ID 130318    Someone of unknown age and sex received the FLU vaccine on 10/12/99.  Says the adverse event onset date was 10/19/99, 7 days post vaccination.  Also says post vaccination  this person developed respiratory arrest and died (not sure of the date - on the 19th?).  It was reported that the medical director felt there was no connection between the vaccination and the events which followed.  (New York)

VAERS ID 132821    A 56 year-old man received the TYP and YF vaccines on 11/22/99.  There's a discrepancy between the text and the onset date field as to when the adverse reaction started, but it was either 11/26 (4 days later) or 11/30 (8 days later).  Anyway, he developed fever, chills, shortness of breath, confusion and less responsive.  On the 1st of December EMS was called - he had a fever of 105 and began having seizures.  In the hospital he was diagnosed with central herniation and cerebral edema.  On the 2nd he was pronounced dead.  (Illinois)

VAERS ID 132820    An infant received the DTaP and HBHepB vaccines on 11/30/99.  The next day he was being watched by his grandmother who reported that the child was shaking earlier in the evening.  He was put in his crib on his back and later found on his stomach, blue around the mouth but still warm.  SIDS suspected. VAERS ID 132541    An infant received the DTaP, HIBV, IPV and HepB vaccines on 11/19/99.  I think he died the next day, but here is what it says "Medical examiner verbally stated that child died from SIDS.  Mother is blaming on immunizations that child received.  Mother states child was very tired and slept until next am, at time of death child's rectal temp was 106."  (Michigan)

VAERS ID 132499    An infant received the DTaP, HBHepB and IPV vaccines on 11/11/99.  On the day of his vaccination he was noted to have an upper respiratory infection.  He remained playful and well-hydrated (I assume post vax).  The next day he was fussy in the morning, given a bottle and put on the couch to nap.  45 minutes later he was not breathing.  Taken to the ER where resuscitation was not successful.  Diagnosis - full arrest.  Suspect SIDS. VAERS ID 132417    A 73 year-old man received the FLU vaccine on 10/18/99.  Says death due to CHF (don't know what that means.)  Also does not say when he died.  (Kentucky)

VAERS ID 134071    An infant received the DTaP, HBHepB and IPV vaccines on 12/7/99.  21 days later he was found by mother with no pulse and not breathing.  (Ohio)

VAERS ID 134066    An infant received the DTP, HIBV and OPV vaccines on 4/29/99.  That same day when mom put her child to sleep she noticed her daughter was not breathing.  She blew in her face and she resumed breathing (actually not sure if it was a boy or a girl - the text says "he", the database field says "F").  She/he continued to be lethargic, weak and cried for 45 minutes.  Says "Came to ER & dxd (diagnosed) w/ poss" and that's it.  Doesn't say when he/she died, but presume it was that same day.  (Don't know what state)

VAERS ID 134575     A 50 year-old woman received the FLU vaccine on 10/20/99.   The next day she started to feel ill.  Was transported to the ER on 11/12 by ambulance and died a few hours later.  She did not see an MD between 10/20 and 11/12/99.  Sister says the flu vaccine caused her sister's death.  (Kansas)

VAERS ID 134574    A 36 year-old woman received the VARCEL vaccine on 11/1/99.  13 days later, she was admitted to the hospital with lethargy.  Had cellulitis restricted to legs, bilateral.  On the 21st she developed vesicles/pustules on the trunk, thighs and legs.  She subsequently died (don't know when) due to pneumonia and sepsis.  No autopsy was performed.  (Massachusetts)

VAERS ID 134498    A male, unknown age, received the Lyme vaccine in March and April of 1999.  He experienced debilitating pain which required him to use crutches.  He also began to experience arthritic and neurologic symptoms.  Allegedly, after 14 doctors and no diagnosis he reached the point where he committed suicide. (Don't know)

VAERS ID 134250    An infant received the DTaP, HIBV, IPV and HepB vaccines on 12/16/99.  4 days later she was found dead by her parent.  (California)

VAERS ID 150875    A five year-old received the DTaP, MMR and OPV vaccines on 8/27/99.  Five days later he woke at 2AM with a fever. Had diarrhea at 1:30PM and threw up at 3PM.  Given Tylenol for fever.  Passed away during the night and pronounced dead on September 2, 1999.  (Indiana)

VAERS ID 119005    An infant received the DTPH, IPV and HepB vaccines on 2/4/99.  2 days later he was brought to the ER with apparent SIDS; found in crib by caregiver.  (Iowa)

VAERS ID 128300    An infant received the DTPH, HepB, OPV and RV vaccines on 7/8/99. 54 days later he or she developed congestion and a runny nose; was seen by an MD (that same day?) who observed him or her to be mottled; pale and cyanotic; taken to ER and intubated; unsuccessful resuscitation.  Don't know when died.  (New York)

VAERS ID 118639    A one year-old received the DTPH, MMR, OPV and VARCEL vaccines on 1/14/99.  14 days later he died in his sleep.  No signs of illness prior to death.  Possible SIDS (too old for SIDS, I thought), possibly unrelated (to vax?).  (California)

VAERS ID 130608    A one year-old received the HBHepB and OPV vaccines on 10/1/99.  12 days later she was admitted to the hospital w/fever, leg pain, abdominal distention, and her leg purple.  Diagnosed as Betahem, streptococci group A invasion.  She was transported to the hospital (I thought she was already at the hospital - if not, where was the diagnosis made?)  There were complications, cardiopulmonary arrest.  Does not say when she died.  (Kentucky)

VAERS ID 152502    An infant received the DTaP and IPV vaccines on 12/6/99.  Post vax, he was in bed with his parents.  The next day he was found with mucus and blood in his mouth early in the morning. 911 was called. Unable to resuscitate. Both parents smoke. Moved into new trailer recently.  (What's that about?)  (Alabama)

VAERS ID 122395    A one year-old received the DTaP and HIBV vaccines on 1/6/99.  29 days later he was admitted to the ER.  He was in respiratory distress, temp 101, retractions (?).   He was intubated, had bradycardia, then loss of pulse.  He died at 11:05PM on the 5th of February of pneumonia.  (Montana)

VAERS ID 122712    An infant received the DTaP, HBHepB and IPV vaccines on 4/30/99.  Two days later his mom found him face down in playpen, not breathing.  Paramedics called by father; had been fed the night before at 11PM by mom and put down in playpen on back @ midnight of the 2nd.  No signs of trauma or foul play;  SIDS.  (California)

VAERS ID 124944    An infant received the DTaP, HIBV, and IPV vaccines on 6/4/99.  Had normal exam and no problems existed. Reported nasal congestion for over a month.  Also had oral thrush.  Congestion was felt to be secondary to milk allergy and recommended change to soy.  Given medication for thrush.  Found dead in bed with parent, presumably 5 days later, the adverse event onset date.  (Arizona)

VAERS ID 124771    An infant received the DTaP vaccine on 6/4/99.  The next day she was found unresponsive and could not be resuscitated.  Is open medical examiners case (?).  (New Mexico)

VAERS ID 126150    An infant received the DTaP, HIBV and IPV vaccines on 7/9/99.  Says post vaccination, he was fed and then found unresponsive; asystolic on arrival to hospital, unable to resuscitate.  All sutures split in cranium (? - encephalopathy?).  Says adverse even occurred the day following the vaccination, so I presume that is when he died (even though the text makes it sound like it was the same day.)  (Utah)

VAERS ID 126221    An infant received the DTaP, HBHepB, IPV and RV vaccines on 2/18/99.  5 days post vaccination treated in ER for gastroenteritis and pharyngitis.  Given phenergan and amoxicillin.  The next day she developed rectal bleeding and expired while awaiting transport to pediatric ICU.  (Minnesota)

VAERS ID 129286 An infant received the DTaP and HIBV vaccines on 9/29/99.  On the day of the shots, had not fever but was fussy.  Had a spell at 24 hours and 40 hours post vaccines, where became poor perfused (mottled), had cold extremities and blue lips, but recovered from both after 20-60 minutes.  Increased RR (?) but mom assured secondary to fussiness and gas on belly.  Died but does not say when.  (Arizona)

VAERS ID 127431  An infant received the DTaP, HepB, HIBV and IPV vaccines on 7/20/99.  5 days post vax, he was sleeping with mom, says "presented to the ED"  (maybe they mean "ER") in asystole; had been sleeping with mom on couch - had blood from both nares in field;  possible SIDS; investigation ongoing.  I believe the infant died that day.  (New York)

VAERS ID 128194  A one year-old received the DTaP vaccine on 1/8/99.  On the 16th, 8 days later, she experienced tiredness, a slight fever (temperature not taken);  on the 17th, increased tiredness, temp of 103.  Had a cool bath.  On the 18th, sluggish behavior, fever up and down 100-103; took children's Tylenol.  On the 19th between 3 and 4 AM she died in her sleep.  (California)

VAERS ID 127855  An infant received the DTaP, HBHepB and IPV vaccines on 7/6/99.  On the second day post vaccination, she broke out with welts on her face only; felt warm. On the third day, the welts were on her face.  No meds were given, felt warm the 3rd night.  Still had welts. She had a bottle at 3:10AM, no fever noted.  Was found dead at 4:45 AM.  (Kentucky)

VAERS ID 127061  An infant received DTaP, HIBV and IPV on 7/12/99.  On the 15th he was found in cardiopulmonary arrest by his dad when he came home from work.  The ambulance was called, EMS intubated  child; on route to ER given atropine; no peripheral IV; needle placed in right anterior tibia.  Presume died that day. VAERS ID 128767  An infant received the DTP, HBHepB and IPV vaccines on 6/30/99.  9 days later on 7/9/99 she started projectile vomiting, was fussy, not eating or sleeping. Fluids were pushed, still projectile vomiting, fussiness, listless, not eating or sleeping.  Given Levsin - no bowel movement, diarrhea (not sure how these can go together); hospitalized (for 3 days), given IV.  Needed CPR (cardiac arrest).  The differential diagnosis was aspiration, sepsis, SIDS, shaken baby syndrome.  Don't know what day she died.  (Texas)

VAERS ID 129511  A one year old received the DTaP, HBHepB, IPV and I believe the Meningitis Vaccines on 7/8/99.  Says post vaccine he developed a fever of 103.3, was irritable and cranky, fever (repeated), not eating; cough, tired, lethargic, not self, not playful, fussy, no sleep, rapid heart bets, left side of chest larger, nose flaring, trouble breathing.  Went to the ER and found to have heart disease.  It says the onset of symptoms was 9/14/99, but it sounds as if they started right away, so maybe that is the date of death.  (California)

VAERS ID 127076  An infant received the DTaP, HepB and HIBV vaccines on 6/15/99.  On 7/8/99 he began vomiting and had a shrill cry;  phoned MD and child taken to the ER; went into shock, transferred to pediatric ICU; coded 15 minutes later.  Taken to surgery - all intestines were black; had malrotation (intussusception);  the next day had a seizure.  Doesn't say when the infant died.  (Ohio)

VAERS ID 120450  A one year-old received the DTaP, HIBV, MMR and OPV vaccines on 3/10/99.  I believe three days later she was brought to the ER in full arrest and expired at the hospital;  she had a slight bloody vaginal discharge that was noted in the ER.  It doesn't say for sure when she died, but it looks like it was 3 days post vaccination.  (Alabama)

VAERS ID 123218  A one year-old received the DTaP, HIBV, MMR and VARCEL vaccines on 4/10/99.  20 days later came down with/had first symptoms(?) of hemophagocytic lymphohisiocytosis (HLH).  Studies, including bone marrow at hospital revealed diagnosis on 9th day of fever.  Child put on chemotherapy and is awaiting bone marrow transplant.  A viral infection, including varicella vaccine, are know triggers.  This child died, it doesn't say when.  (Oregon)

VAERS ID 128797  A 37 year-old received the Hepatitis B and TD vaccines on 4/21/99.  That same day she experienced hives, was itchy all over, then shortness of breath, difficulty breathing.  Went to the ER, her blood pressure was very low, pulse undetectable.  Says pre-existing conditions "ampicillin, codeine, erythromycin, penicillin".  Don't know if that means was known to be allergic to those things, or was taking them.  This illness was considered life-threatening.  It says she has recovered.  (Wisconsin)

VAERS ID 127452  An infant received the DTaP, HepB, HIBV and IPV vaccines on 5/10/99.  On the same day, she became apneic, was taken to the ER.  Mom state she stopped breathing for between 10-20 seconds;  she was monitored; no apnea noted in the hospital.  Given elimite cream 5%; selsun blue shampoo b/w (?).  This illness was considered life-threatening and the infant was hospitalized for 2 days.  It says she has recovered.  (Florida)

VAERS ID 126245  A 27 year-old received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 7/16/99.  Within 2 minutes the patient went into respiratory failure (anaphylactic shock); epinephrine was given, Solumedrol.  Previously known to be highly allergic to eggs and peanuts.  This illness was considered life-threatening and she was hospitalized for an unknown number of days.  It is UNKNOWN whether or not she has recovered.  (Washington)

VAERS ID 123704  An infant received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 5/12/99.  4 days later he refused to take a bottle, ended up in ICU, diagnosis unknown.  This illness was considered life-threatening and this infant was hospitalized for 10 days.  This infant HAS NOT recovered.  (North Carolina)

VAERS ID 121233  A 16 year-old received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 1/21/99.  2 months post vaccine, the patient developed ideopathic thrombocytopenia..  Her first diagnosis was 3/22/99 day for bruising, decreased platelets.  This illness was considered life-threatening and she was hospitalized for 2 days.  She HAS NOT recovered.  (Massachusetts)

VAERS ID 119197  A sixteen year-old had the MMR and Hepatitis B vaccines on 1/21/99.  His father reports that within 5 minutes his son complained of swelling eyes, and that his chest felt tight.  Within about 1 and 1/4 hours, his eyes were completely swollen, joints hurt, he had shortness of breath, a tight chest.  Went to the ER, treated with IV and 6 shots (of what, I don't know);  swelling was reduce in 2 1/2 hours;  was discharged with joint aches lasting 1/12 days.  This illness was considered life-threatening.  It says he recovered.  (Louisiana)

VAERS ID 122139  An infant received DTaP, HepB, HIBV and IPV vaccines on 4/26/99.  2 days later he had cyanotic episodes - hypotonia, eye deviation.  I believe it says he went to the hospital to the pediatric ICU;  a full work up was done.  This illness was considered life-threatening and this infant was hospitalized for 5 days.  It is UNKNOWN whether or not he recovered.  (Illinois)

VAERS ID 119336  A 33 year-old received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 1/19/99.  She had an allergic reaction within 5 minutes of receiving the vaccine;  911 called.  She was immediately given epinephrine and 02 mask;  experienced shaking all over, difficulty breathing, cyanosis, jerking movements of extremities; given benadryl in ambulance by EMT, IV's, steroids, then released from ER.  She had a history of allergic reactions to bee stings, white rice.  Had had the 1st Hep B vaccine in 1992 without reaction;  none given again until this one.  This illness was considered life-threatening.  It says she has recovered.  (Maryland)

VAERS ID 118402  An infant received the Hepatitis B Vaccine on 1/21/99.  Immediately post vax she went into respiratory arrest followed by cardiac arrest.  CPR was started immediately by a nurse.  The ambulance was called.  The patient was intubated and transferred to a local ER, then admitted for 2 days.  This infant already had a dextroposed heart and micropthalmia.  This infant had received the first Hep B shot on 12/22/98, SKB lot# 2626a2.  This illness was considered life threatening .  It says she recovered.  (Illinois)

VAERS ID 118334  An infant received the DTaP, HepB, HIBV, IPV and some vaccine starting with "R" on 1/14/99.  On the 17th, 3 days later, late onset group B stretp sepsis and meningitis were diagnosed.  He had an elevated temperature two days following the vaccines, which was treated with acetaminophen.  On the 17th he was back to normal, but in the afternoon woke up ashen, with fever up;  take to ER - meningitis.  Prior condition - prematurity (25 weeks)/retinopathy of prematurity. Other meds:  syarages by med-immune lot# 810834 given 1/14/99.   This illness was considered life-threatening, the child was hospitalized for 14 days and HAS NOT recovered.  (Missouri)

VAERS ID 118586  An infant received DTaP, HepB, HIBV and OPV vaccines on 1/25/99.  The next day she had a fever (103.7), seizures, lethargy.  She was hospitalized for one day.  This illness was considered life-threatening.  She has since recovered.  (West Virginia)

VAERS ID 118566 An infant received the Hepatitis B vaccine on 1/29/99.  That same day she became unresponsive, pale, limp; given antibiotics and IV fluids.  Preexisting condition was exposure to beta strep via vaginal delivery (baby, however was one month old when this happened).  This illness was considered life-threatening and she was hospitalized for 3 days.  She has since recovered. (Illinois)
